How ChargeFinder.uk checks prices, listings and statistics

Prices are checked by hand against each operator's website. Listings are a dated snapshot from Open Charge Map. Statistics are official Department for Transport figures. Nothing here is real time.

Prices

Source. The operator's own published tariff page or app terms, linked from each network page. Third-party price lists are not used.

How often. By hand. There is no fixed schedule and no automatic re-check. The latest check month is October 2026, and the month for each network is on its page.

Check date. Each network page opens with the month its prices were checked. 4 of the 12 networks have no check yet, so they show "Prices not yet checked" and no price: Connected Kerb, Fastned, MFG EV Power, Pod Point.

Limits. Operators change tariffs without notice. A price can differ by site, time of day, payment method and membership. Where a network has a range or a condition, the page says so. Treat every price as a guide and confirm it in the operator's app before you charge.

Charge point listings

Source. Open Charge Map, a database kept by contributors, together with the UK National Charge Point Registry records it holds. The current snapshot has 23,410 sites, downloaded on 23 October 2026.

How often. The snapshot is refreshed by hand when ChargeFinder.uk is rebuilt. Between refreshes the listings do not change.

Check date. The snapshot date is shown on station pages. Where a contributor has verified a listing in the last 12 months, the listing shows the month. Older listings are labelled as not recently verified.

Limits. Open Charge Map is incomplete and some listings are out of date, so a site can be missing, closed or have a different number of sockets. The site does not know whether a charger is working or free at any moment. Records without a usable location, or that Open Charge Map marks as not operational, are left out.

Statistics

Source. The Department for Transport's electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics, matched to postcode districts with the Office for National Statistics postcode lookup.

How often. When the Department publishes. The current edition has a reference date of 1 July 2026 and was published on 27 August 2026. The next update is due November 2026.

Check date. The reference date and publication date appear at the foot of each page that uses these figures.

Limits. These are counts of charging devices on the reference date, not live availability. The Department labels them official statistics in development. They will not match Open Charge Map counts, because the sources and dates differ.

Driver reports

Driver reports are short notes from people who have just used a charger. They appear on motorway pages. They are early, and so far there are few of them.

How reports are collected

A driver picks a status for a service station: working, some broken, all broken or a queue. They can add the network, connector, charging speed, the price they paid and a short tip of up to 280 characters. A bot check runs before a report is accepted, and one person can report the same station only once in a short period.

How reports are moderated

  • Reports that look like they contain an email address, phone number or IP address are refused.
  • Reports with links, or words on a blocked list, are held for review and do not appear until approved.
  • When three different connections flag the same report, it is hidden until it is reviewed.
  • Removed reports have their text and details deleted. The community rules say what is allowed.

What is counted

Only live reports count. A station shows its latest report with the time it was made, and a count of reports by status in the last 24 hours. If the latest report is more than 48 hours old, the station shows "No recent reports". Held, hidden and removed reports are not counted.

Limits

Reports come from a small number of self-selecting drivers and are not checked on site. A report shows what one person found at one moment. It is not a reliability score and does not show current availability.

Any figure built from reports shows "not enough data" until it rests on at least 30 reports, so a handful of reports never turns into a percentage. There is no reliability statistics page yet. One will be published only when there are enough reports for each motorway shown, and each figure will show how many reports sit behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ChargeFinder.uk show whether a charger is working right now?
No. The site has no real-time status. Listings are a dated snapshot and driver reports are few, so check the operator app for live availability.
How do I know when a price was last checked?
Every network page shows the month its tariff was last checked against the operator website. A network with no check date shows no price.
Why do some charger counts differ between pages?
Department for Transport statistics and Open Charge Map listings are different sources with different dates. The Department for Transport figure is the official count. The Open Charge Map figure is a contributor-maintained snapshot.
When does a driver report show a percentage?
No percentage is shown yet. Any figure built from driver reports will show "not enough data" until it rests on at least 30 reports.
