How this table was compiled

The figures come from table EVCI0102 of the Department for Transport's electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics for 1 July 2026. Ranks are by chargers per 100,000 people. The highest rates come first. Councils with the same rate share a rank. Change is the difference between the January 2026 and July 2026 counts. Each local page link goes to the ChargeFinder town page with the most postcode districts in that council area. Districts are matched with the ONS postcode lookup.

Limitations

  • These are official statistics in development. They are not accredited official statistics.
  • Council-level figures start in January 2026. Longer trends are not available for councils.
  • One charge point operator removed about 1,270 private chargers from its public data in June 2026. Some council changes since January 2026 may be affected.
  • Per-person rates use ONS mid-2024 population estimates. They do not account for visitors or commuters.
