How these figures were compiled

The latest charger figures on this page come from the Department for Transport's electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics for 1 July 2026. The statistics were published on 27 August 2026. We use the per-person rates in the DfT extract. Check the original table notes for the methodology and population basis. We download the tables and recalculate shares and changes with a script. We keep an extract in our repository so every number here can be reproduced from the source files.

Limitations

  • These are official statistics in development. Read the source notes before using the figures.
  • Keep the charger and device series separate. Check the source definitions before comparing units.
  • Use the same reporting dates and geographical areas when comparing figures. Read the notes in the original DfT tables before interpreting a change.
  • Check operator information separately for prices, opening hours and current charger availability.
