Frequently Asked Questions

How many public EV chargers are there in Edinburgh?
The Department for Transport counts chargers by council area, not by town or county. We count each postcode district listed for Edinburgh under the council holding most of its postcodes. This selects the council areas City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Falkirk, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian. Together they had 2,712 public EV chargers on 1 July 2026, including 558 chargers rated 50kW or more.
Which council area around Edinburgh has the most chargers per person?
East Lothian had the most, with 599.9 public chargers per 100,000 people on 1 July 2026. The UK figure was 174.9.
How much does public charging cost in Edinburgh?
Prices are set by each charging network, not by area, so ChargeFinder does not publish an area average. Our network pages show prices where we have checked them against the operator's website, with the month checked. Otherwise, the page says the price has not been checked or that prices vary by site.
